RAPID MASTITIS MICROBIOLOGY

Vetdiagnostix – Veterinary Pathology Services has just launched their rapid mastitis microbiology service which targets ten of the most important bacterial and yeast pathogens associated with clinical mastitis in cattle. Making use of highly specialized selective and chromogenic medias we are able to provide identification of key bacteria involved in mastitis infections in under 24 hours. A comprehensive mastitis antibiogram panel is also on offer for selected samples to build an individual herd profile over time for relevant antibiotic selection for therapy in the future. Included in this panel are cytological procedures evaluating the lipid content of milk as well as evidence of fibrosis, which together with the sensitivity profile, have a major impact on the type of antibiotic selected as well as the nature of the supportive therapy provided.
